MY GLOVES
My final Krampus costume thought was what to do about my hands. I didn’t want to have my human hands, and needed to disguise them in some way. Frequently, costumed Krampuses will often wear black gloves. I like the more demonic look and wanted to find monster-like hands for my costume. That’s been a bit of a trial-and-error mess.
I purchased my first gloves from an Etsy latex costumer. They were a full latex glove that went from fingertip to elbow. The look was EXCELLENT. When I wore them for the first time though, they were a nightmare. The latex couldn’t breathe and I sweat in them so badly that they created a river of sweat when I pulled them off (gross…I know).
The second time, I repurposed some gloves from another old costume, that I had bought from Amazon. They were latex but only covered the back of the hand, wrists and fingers. I was able to wear thin, black gloves underneath, to disguise my own skin. The problem was that they were purple and didn’t match my costume. We painted them and the color was perfect, but we used the wrong finishing varnish on them and they became as sticky as flypaper.
I’m now on my third pair of gloves. I bought them from another Etsy costumer. Again, the latex covers the back of the hand and fingers. These have fur on them though, and a sewn-in black glove. the color match isn’t exact, but I’m liking the look and wear of them so far.
